Hi mums. My 13 week old has recently (in the past month or so) started hugely fighting sleep, mainly in the evening but also for some naps during the day. We are super vigilant about tired signals and awake periods, and will take him to a calm, dark (as much as we can get it) room as soon as it's time for sleep. Baby starts off tired, relaxed and sleepy but quickly starts jerking himself about and then it all spirals, with him working himself up more and more until he's just screaming and miles away from sleep. The more tired he gets the more he cries so it's a vicious cycle. We're basically doing whatever we can to try and calm him (rocking, sh-ing, patting, dummy or an extra feed) but nothing works. Eventually he'll exhaust himself crying but usually after at least an hour or so of screaming. We have a bedtime routine etc but it feels a bit pointless - however calm and sleepy he starts out, he just works himself into a frenzy struggling to fall asleep. Has anyone else had this? Did you find anything in particular that worked, or is it just a 'they will grow out of it' thing? It's horrible seeing him so stressed, and it means bedtime takes literally all evening. I keep thinking we must be doing something wrong...
