Baby will only sleep in the day!

So DS is 5 weeks and I appreciate that this is very young for any kind of sleeping pattern but this last week DH and I have been losing our minds. Essentially in a nutshell, DS is on completely the wrong body clock and only sleeps in the day and can easily only have 2 or 3 hours max at night. We’ve tried most things but it’s so hard to change this pattern with such a young baby. Any tips? We have an older DC so don’t have the luxury of napping in the day ourselves to catch up and it’s completely exhausting.
DS is FF and we don’t co-sleep. DH and I can both be incredibly deep sleepers, especially when we’re so exhausted, and it doesn’t feel safe so co-sleeping isn’t an option for us.

Hi. My daughter is the same age and a little similar. I think before they are 12 weeks they can't establish the difference between day and night so it's normal but of course hard for us at night time!

Things that I try to do to keep my daughter awake in the day (when possible) are:

  • opening blinds in the morning
  • taking baby out for walks to get used to daylight / fresh air
  • when they are awake show them black and white images (my daughter really responds to this but might be different for you)

In the night time I have a Ewan the sheep which helps settle her and of course a good old dummy.

Hope this helps and that you get a good night soon! X
