What is your toddler wearing to sleep?

Hi! Can only find baby sleepwear guides. Are they still relevant for an 18 month old?
We don't use sleeping bags.
The room is currently 18 degrees - what is everyone else dressing their toddlers in this evening? Thanks!

Ideally a set of thin long sleeved pyjamas and a light blanket. In reality a long sleeve top, a penguin hat and a pink fluffy gilet… gonna take the gilet and hat off once she’s asleep…

Sleeveless vest
long sleeve PJs
2.5tog Grobag

Long sleeved pyjamas and socks, with a 1tog duvet. It’s about 18 degrees in the room and drops to 16ish overnight. He doesn’t like being tucked in whilst still awake and wriggles a lot when he’s nodding off. Unfortunately we don’t have thermostats on the radiators so it’s either on or off (currently off) so when I check before I go to bed I’ll tuck the duvet over him & it will usually stay like that until he wakes up.

Long sleeved PJs. She has a 4.5 tog quilt that stays on her for about 30 seconds then it's on the floor for the rest of the night.

ChittyBang1987 · 13/10/2022 19:57

We do long sleeve pjs socks and 2.5 tog sleeping bag. To be honest if she didn't wear sleeping bag I would use a 4.5 tog duvet

QuiltedHippo · 13/10/2022 19:58

I feel theyre a bit less risk of overheating now? And they can move blankets if they're too warm.

Mines same age and in short sleeved vest, pajama top and trousers, 1.5tog sleeping bag (only as I've not bought any new thicker ones in her size yet) with a blanket over. I'll probably add a second blanket when we got to bed.
She runs quite hot and normally ends up in our bed at some point so don't like her tooo warm as she'll get body heat them so it's a bit of a compromise

PJs and a fleecey onesie (Asda do great ones). Three blankets and a quilt.

I doubt all of those blankets are necessary, but he’s in a blanket phase right now and each one is very important and they must be in the correct order!

Thanks for this, have you found she needs socks as well or not?

Short sleeved vest, long sleeved pjs, socks and 4.5 tog duvet and his blankey (comforter) he usually kicks off the duvet though!

RosieLee2019 · 14/10/2022 21:45

Short sleeve vest, pjs, 4.5 tog duvet in his cot but when he co-sleeps with me he doesn’t like any sort of duvet or cover.

Essie274 · 14/10/2022 22:06

2.5yo in a merino wool vest and merino wool all-in-one/sleepsuit. He has two blankets as well but scarcely keeps them on him and it doesn't seem to bother him. When it gets colder he'll wear a fleece onesie over the top too. Last winter he was still in sleeping bags so we still followed the temp charts.

ottilieorange · 14/10/2022 22:40

Thanks all.
I'm still unclear what to do. We don't have a sleeping bag which is big enough for him now.
He's wearing a baby gro, with a vest underneath. Does this sound like enough?
He had a wool blanket in the cot with him but this doesn't stay on.
He wakes about 2/3am often.
What extra clothing would you add?
Current temp is 19 degrees but this will likely drop later into the night. Thanks!

Could you perhaps buy another one. I found slumbersac good for my 19 month old. Keeps her toasty all night and as they have legs and feet she can walk with them.

Rosep1999 · 10/03/2025 11:55

Hi,
I make kids pyjamas and would love to know if I was to make a pj set out of muslin cotton should I make them short sleeve or long? What do your kids prefer to sleep in? The photo is a sample of a short pj set.

We are using pyjamas and a 2.5 tog sleep suit from Love to Dream which we switched to when she outgrew her sleeping bags. Keeps her warm and she can’t throw it off but they are expensive (around £40 new, £20 second hand). We will switch to a duvet soon when she moves into a normal bed but trying to wait until warmer weather in case she throws it off.

Oops didn’t notice this is an old thread.
