Did learning to crawl really affect sleep?

I've always had issues with split nights. Thought I'd cracked it with self settling, two naps and more layers. Almost 9 month old is learning to crawl. She planks, gets on all 4s and pushes herself back but hasn't got the forward motion yet. She's also got two teeth poking through. Last two nights she's been up for two hours between 1-5am (again!).

She's eating 3 meals a day, is breastfed. Won't drink much formula.

My schedule is good and she self settles for both naps in cot.

Wake 5:30-6:30
BF
8:00 Breakfast porridge with formula and fruit
9:30 nap 1 30 or 45 mins (I wake her)
11am BF
12:30 lunch solids
1:15 BF
1:30-2 nap 2. 1.5 hours in cot awake by 3:30
4pm BF
5pm diner solids
6:30 bath.
7pm Bf asleep by 7:30.

Argh!!!! Help me please!

Short answer .. yes!! Both of mine sleep crawled. It's a phase and will pass

DoItAfraid · 12/10/2022 21:55

You just have to ride this one out! I am sorry I didnt even read your routine because it’s nothing to do with your routine - it’s just a developmental phase. Sorry!

serenaisaknobhead · 12/10/2022 21:57

Yep! It's a thing! Mine also used to sit up in his sleep and clap when he'd learned to do this lol

Sorebackandibs · 12/10/2022 22:02

Oh god, the sleep crawl phase! Ds would roll on his belly, sleep crawl to the top of his cot, then cry when he couldn't go any further. Like everything else, it passes!

Yes. Mine sleep crawled before he could crawl awake. He'd wake up on all fours at the end of the cot and not know how to lie down again. They process motor skills in their sleep.

Mine did this a bot earlier than yours. But 8-10 months is a well known time for crap sleep. If you've also got crawling happening I think you just have to expect it to be bad for a while.

Yup. Crawl in sleep, headbutt the end of the cot, wake up, cry. Took a few weeks to settle.

Ugh yes DS was terrible for this! He also used to pull himself up to standing then be unable to lie down again.
