Safe sleep and new mattress?

I know you’re meant to replace any mattresses in second hand cots/beds for safe sleep for babies. Does this include the mattress in a bassinet, if not used for overnight sleep? Is second hand bedding okay?

Second hand bedding fine but get a new mattress!

Thank you, it’s sold out everywhere! Hoping the second hand mattress is alright for a few weeks (just for in bassinet whilst out) and then can replace when back in stock. I am quite nervous about SIDS.

Where did the bassinet come from? You can never really be sure how it was stored and whether it poses any risk to your baby unless you know where it's come from. And even then I'd buy new. Is there an alternative you can look at rather than wait for the out of stock one?

Thank you, it was second hand and came with the pram. I was inside of the home where it was kept and it was spotless, they said it’d always been stored indoors. But even so doesn’t seem worth the risk?

trouble is I can’t find a mattress that fits it! I spoke with LullabyTrust yesterday and they confirmed the recommendation to use a fresh mattress for pram bassinets as well if coming from out of the home. I reckon we’ll just do a carrier or sling for walks until the new mattress I’ve back ordered has arrived!
