Short nap suddenly 16 month

So recently my 16 month old does a short nap - used to be 1.5-2 hours 11-1 and now it's like 1 hour and he wakes screaming.

He has been unwell so not sure if that's why.

We've also had even earlier wakings. He usually wakes 5.30am naps 11-1 and bed 6/6.30pm.

Recently he's been waking 5am though. I originally wanted to push his nap later to get bedtime later, but that's impossible now he's waking midday he's going to bed 6pm exhausted then up at 5 again.

Any tips!?

Sounds overtiredness. could you move nap 15 mins later every 3 days?? So your getting more 12/1230.

Or could do it all in one go, couple days overtiredness. Then hopefully settles. I would have a very busy morning. Or you could give a 10 mins nap in morning say 9/930 then have nap at 1230.

Another one. Something nice and filling before nap? Sometimes when my lo is ill, I will give milk before her afternoon nap as its comfort and also fills her up.

When lo is ill. She can take short naps. So when she wakes I try cosleeping. But then we have a bed in her room, so that helps.

That 10/15min nap is on short term basis, just to get lo to lunch time after waking early. Then 1230pm nap means later bedtime then in turn later wake up once it's settled which can take a few weeks

@ChittyBang1987 he won't take a nap at 9.30 I've tried!!

It's so hard pushing him to 12 when he's up at 5, he literally starts crying little sensitive bran

I know it's tough. I have been there. Maybe try the move nap every 3 days by 15 mins. Something nice and filling before nap.

@ChittyBang1987 Any tips for filling foods?

He is so fussy, won't eat cheese, meat.

Especially since he's been unwel, all he has eaten is cheerios and rice cakes and fruit 😂

What about a bottle of milk? If lo not well that's my go to. Unless it's a sickness bug, I try to avoid unless it's desperate.

Pasta always goes well in my house. Or noodles. Or part baked rolls. Crumpets. Toast. Bagels. Scotch pancakes. Egg. Fish? Hummus? I have been known to give ice cream for afters to keep nice and full but I'm one of those mums as long as she eats I'm happy and she has varied diet and I have to trust she knows what she needs
