Baby inconsistent sleeping

I do the same routine every night with my baby but every night is completely different, no 2 wake ups are the same time and his behaviour is different. Tonight he was down at 8 and wide awake from 1 am after a feed.. I can't fucking do this. He's 5 months old, surely it should be getting better?

I don’t know, I’ve got 3 kids, the youngest is 11 months and he is still very inconsistent.
Last night he slept through, the night before he woke once, and the 2 nights before he woke 5+ times and was awake for a long time each time.
5 months is still so very young. I know it’s hard though.
It does get better though (which is my mantra every day!) my older kids are champions at sleeping

Apparently their nighttime sleep can be affected by their daytime sleep. How many naps and how long is he sleeping during the day?

My 6.5 month old has suddenly decided to resist naps and when she does sleep during the day it’s for shorter periods. She only had two naps during the day for the last two days and I was up three times last night and it’s looking like it’s going to be the same tonight.

@Allegra82 it's mad isn't it?! We had a night where he slept through without waking, one where he woke at 4:30 and one where he woke about 3 times! I hope so, he's my first and he couldn't be a worse baby 😫

@Pollywoddles he has 3 naps, he has 1 big one in the morning then 2 little ones in the afternoon.. i log all his sleeps and naps and I can never ever see a pattern, he can sleep really well in the day and still be shit at night
