Overtired 17 month old on one nap!

I Really need help and advice….again about naps!
My DD is 17 months old in 2 days and has been on one nap for awhile (about 4 weeks) she just completely refused the morning one so I tried gradually making it later, but she would only fall asleep at the earliest about 11:30am (in her cot with dummy and white noise and snuggle)

I went with it for awhile but she was only doing an hour at the most, some days only 30 mins and wouldn’t nap again no matter how hard I tried. I had 2 days after about 2 weeks of trying where she slept for 2 hours! So I thought brilliant it’s fixing itself! Then since those 2 days it’s been back to 1 hour or 45 mins etc which isn’t enough.

I know it’s not enough as she’s developed a sty in her eye which I’m now bathing etc and she seems so teasy and overtired all morning and after the nap! It’s also now effecting nighttime sleep as she’s waking more and earlier 😣

I have tried napping her earlier, later etc etc she just screams until I get her out of the cot! I give her lunch before the nap and it doesn’t make it longer. We go out to tire her out and it still doesn’t work. She has been teething for a week but surely it can’t effect naps this much can it? I’ve tried calpol etc before also.

I feel like such a crap mum that I can’t get her to nap longer! I wouldn’t worry so much but she CLEARLY needs longer, as the 2 days she did 2 hours she was so happy.

Please any advice would be gratefully received. Or even if you’re in a similar position so we can hold hands together…..sigh 😪

Your not a crap mum. When we dropped to one nap it took about 6 weeks for her to adjust. ALso there is a sleep regression around 15 to 18 months which might not be helping??
Is lo teething? My lo has 2 teeth coming through and been unwell. So on and off for 3 weeks we have had to resort to co sleeping to ensure she gets enough sleep or like you we are overtired and grumpy and more wake ups along with early rises, with short naps. I have even snuggled down for nap times with her to get some good sleep with her. Last 2 nights she's slept through and hasn't needed us. Hopefully it continues 🙏 😬

Oh just seen lo is teething. It could be that my lo never been bothered by her teeth but these ones really are bothering her this time.

Thanks for replying Chittybang. I would love to co-sleep but my DD Wouldn’t lol. So it has to be cot sleep. She has slept from 6pm-5am and I left her this am and she’s hone back to sleep at 7am still sleeping.

This is after only napping for 30 minutes yesterday. So it might be better today! I did wonder about the regression, that could be adding to it. I think it will sort itself out eventually it’s just tough for DD until that happens.

My DD wasn’t bothered by previous teeth either but these are! Must be molars. I hope your LO continues to sleep too, thanks again for replying.

My lo never tolerated co sleeping its literally been last month 😆 as think she's actually needs us to sleep for a change.

That's great. Fingers crossed 🤞 lo will sleep better today and tonight.

Enjoy peace and quite

She fell asleep at 1:20 and has been asleep for 1 hour 20 so far….yeay! So pleased. Honestly it’s the toughest thing getting them enough sleep! Thanks for replying again. Here’s to good naps and night sleep…until the next thing lol.
