Chicco next to me mattress assembly

To those of you with a chicco next to me crib
Please can you let me know where the wooden board should be when assembling the mattress? Does it go below the mattress or on top?

I ordered one and the mattress was already assembled, so not sure if I've understood properly but the harder bit goes on the bottom of the crib and the baby will lie on the soft part.
