Hi, my daughter has always been a good sleeper during the night however she has started waking around 4am for the past 2 weeks and nothing will settle her back to sleep. Any advice appreciated!!

What's nap routine?
Is lo cold? Hungry? Too light?
Birds waking lo??

Chans11 · 22/09/2022 10:41

Hi

she naps for nearly 2 hours mid morning, afternoon nap is always abit of a struggle so not sure if that is the problem.

we dress her according to her room temp so dont think hot or cold but hard as the temperate seem to change so quickly!

we use white noise so dont think birds a problem. We was up between 4-7 so her ‘routine’ is completely out of the window today!!

thanks

What time does lo go to bed?
What time is first nap? What time for second nap

Chans11 · 22/09/2022 19:45

Go to bed anytime between 6pm-8pm at the moment and she used to wake at 6am roughly. I aimed for first nap around 9 and 2nd around 1430. She still hasnt fully settled tonight and hasnt napped once

If lo hasn't slept at all today. Lo is massively overtired which means in turn they won't settle at all, or at least have a hard job. Lately my lo has episodes of this due to being ill, nursery and not napping. So when she stirs and not able to settle usually around 430 am to 5am I cosleep in her room (we have an extra bed in there) and she's only started tolerating cosleeping too. She's unsettled. I don't talk and just doze next to her until she settles eventually.

So at 9.5 month I was approx 930am/945am to 11/115am. Then 2pm to 230pm(though I would extend much more then 3 hours atm for you as lo overtired. Until 4pm latest then bed about 730pm to 8pm.

Think you need to pick a routine and stick with it. And adjust 30 mins either way but not too much more.

Some do 30 to 45 mins in morning and then get a long lunch time nap. It is what suits your lo. This didn't suit my lo until she was older.

Next few days stay in work on naps and cut down wake times. If you have to do 3 naps. Do 3 naps, but keep that last one short and sweet. I'm sure you are but nice big feed before nap. As well as lunch or breakfast. To encourage sleep.

I want to say there is a sleep regression around this time but may be wrong.

Thank you for taking the time to reply in such detail! I am going to co sleep tonight in the hope that she sleeps better and will work on getting more of a routine! Yes i had read there is a sleep regression which doesnt help especially with teething aswel!

10 month sleep regression!

We suffered it recently, through the other side now though.

ChittyBang1987 · 23/09/2022 01:32

No worries. If you can try not to have too much

ChittyBang1987 · 23/09/2022 01:36

Opppss posted to soon. Just remember not to have to much input in getting lo to sleep such as rocking or such. Sounds mean but leave them to it when cosleeping as I have heard some Los get used to you getting them to sleep. Whenever I cosleep I just pop her on bed and most I do is pop a reassuring hand on her. As can lose ability to go sleep if you help too much. Good luck!

Mine did this for about 8 days just before they started crawling and pulling themselves up. Then back to waking at 6-7am. Is she due some sort of development leap?

Chans11 · 23/09/2022 10:15

She is currently going through leap 7 according to wonder weeks and is trying hard to crawl! She woke up screaming at 4am and took a while to resettle.. then went down till 730. Tired!!

Is so brutal! Wouldnt mind if she was just awake but she just screams the whole time aswel and gets herself worked up!
