Mattress on floor?

Hi, I currently have a 20 month old step daughter who I have full time. She's constantly full of energy through out the day and a nightmare to get to sleep or even nap. She is constantly climbing out of cots and more than likely I'll be wakened to her running around the room at 6am through the monitor. This morning we made the decision to scrap the cot and literally put her mattress on the floor, remove all toys from her room and try to get her to sleep like that. I'm currently 8 weeks pregnant and I'm not sure if that's effecting her, has anyone else ever made this approach to sleep time? And how did it go.

Thanks :)

My DC was in a toddler bed at a similar age to stop there being an injury from climbing out of the cot. DC slept a lot better in their bed but a 6am wakening is not unusual for a toddler. Mine had also dropped naps by around 14 months, they were like the Duracell bunny-always on the go!

I’d maybe lift the mattress up on its side each day so there is airflow and the mattress doesn’t get mildew from being pressed against the floor full time.

I have no experience or advice as mine is only 16 weeks but floor beds are a Montessori approach that are supposed to allow the child independence and ownership over their environment.
