Is 4 month regression real?

My DS is 5 months (3 months corrected)

My DS has started sleeping 8pm-7am. What a DREAM!!!!!
but, previous to this in the day he would fall asleep when he was tired, wherever he was and would stay asleep for 1-2 hours.

now he’s sleeping through the night… I feel all he does in the day is, scream when tired… sleep for 30 minutes.. wake up screaming… try to put him back to sleep… sleep for another 30 minutes.

is this a sleep regression? I’m not sure it is??? Because why would he sleep all night. If it is how long does it last? Because I’m not used to a baby who cries when they are tired - he always just fell asleep!!!!

is this sleep regression a myth????? Or is it what I’m experiencing

I think around a similar corrected age my ds started sleeping much better at night but only doing very short naps unless in motion or held. Sadly then the 4 month regression happened 3 weeks later and the nights went haywire too.

We never had any regressions so I've never been convinced that they're actually a thing. I only have one child to go by though, a sibling of his could be totally different I suppose!

Yes it’s real. I’m inn thr throes of it right now. Joy.

Experienced same with My first also.

its well documented and explained, but obviously every baby is different

My son went from 2/3 hour naps to 30 mins naps literally overnight. His night sleep was always rubbish and so I didn’t notice a change

my daughter went from sleeping 12 hours from 8 weeks with one wake for a feed at 4am for weeks and weeks to waking 3 times a night literally overnight. But her naps stayed remained okish (slightly wonky but only a few days).

bizarre but def real for me!
both of them took 4-6 weeks to settle

Mine does this too, like he didn't want to wake up and it makes him cross. A bit of bouncing or boob usually puts him back to sleep so I can extend that nap that way. The naps went first, night sleep followed a little while after and we're now doing 1-5 night wake ups when he used to sleep through 😴

@GinnyBee how long did it take for nights to go after naps? My LO’s naps have been off for 3 weeks now… hoping this means nights won’t be affected

BigskyMontana · 03/09/2022 21:00

Definitely real. I’ve just come through it again with my second.

both times, naps were the first thing to go and then after about 2 weeks the constant night wakings start. My DS1 woke every 1.5 hours for 6 weeks, luckily second hasn’t been quite as bad.

Good luck, hopefully it passes quickly. I’ve always found Wonder Weeks App very accurate
