Hi all,

my nearly 9m old sleeps great and all night in her cot however wont sleep in the cot for naps. The room is dark with white noise etc. she also isn't able to get herself to sleep yet. Does this improve with age or is sleep training the only option as I don't really want to do that incase it ruins her current good night sleeps!

many thanks

There will be plenty of people saying their babies naturally allowed them to put them down after being rocked but mine NEVER did. They had to be held for the entire duration (only the touching was not enough). Others will tell it’s ok to contact nap until they are 18yo, but I just desperately needed the time and peace of mind, tried all the “gentle” methods but only sleep training did the trick I’m afraid! I never thought I’d see the day but now she naps twice a day on her cot without tears and I have 3h a day to myself and/or sort stuff in the house. That means when it’s bedtime I have everything almost under control so when she’s out for the night I can have dinner, watch tv and relax with DH… priceless!!!!! I would also suggest you do it before they learn to stand up as that makes things much harder IME
