Split nights - 14mo

Generally sleep is pretty good, but about once a week or so 14mo will have a split night.

He can wake at any point from about 9.30 pm, but usually 1am ish, then I'd awake for about 3 hours. He'll fidget about before falling back to sleep. He cries if I try to leave him in his cot.

I've read it could be due to long day naps or early nights, but I can't see that it's the problem here. He's on one nap a day now. Often wakes at around 6.30 then naps from about 10, sometimes 10.30. Nap is usually about 2 hours but can be 1.5 or even 3. He has to be awake at least 7 hours before entertaining going to sleep at night! So bedtime is usually between 7.30 -8.30, depending how long he's been awake.

Most nights he does go through, but these split nights are killing me!

Does anyone have any advice?

Also, the short naps are usually because a poo has woken him up and he won't go back down. Any help with this too?!

No advice but solidarity - my 17mo has been having split nights almost every night for seven months now and it is a killer! We’re currently trialling sticking to strict wake windows as quite sure she’s been going to bed overtired but I’m not holding my breath. Two days in and it’s hard to say at the moment as she’s full of a cold so waking up coughing! Hope you get to the bottom of it soon 🤞🏼
