Early Waking/First Nap

LO 10m wakes any time from 5.30am onwards. I would love this to be consistently after 6am. He is a very good sleeper otherwise, goes to sleep very easily and self settles.

I have tried moving bedtime later but to no avail. I leave him in his cot and try not to get him up before 6.30am. He has a bottle at 7am.

Naps are at 9am-10.20am and 1.30pm-3.00pm with bed around 7pm.

I am considering capping the morning nap at 30/45mins and moving lunch nap forward a bit to try and help with the early wake. Really he is ready to have first nap 2 hours after waking but I try and stretch this to as close to 9am as possible (as again I’ve been told if 1st nap is too early it can cause early wake).

I follow the Huckleberry sleep schedule loosely which suggests it’s fine for babies this age to be on a 2-nap schedule with the naps roughly 1hr30 each. But I’m wondering if the early long nap is perpetuating an earlier wake.

What’s annoying is that he will sometimes wake between 6-7am for a few days but I don’t do anything differently.

Worth noting we have blackout, white noise, etc.

Could you try feeding him when he wakes and see if he'll go back to sleep? Could he be just slightly too hungry to carry on sleeping that bit longer? Works for my 8mo, he then goes back to sleep until 7/7.30.

@Rowlie my friend had a very good sleep consultant and shared her plan. A long and early short nap can worsen emw as it seen as extension as their short night sleep.
at 10m she suggested a 930 30min nap.

Out of interest I tried eveything with my son and realised he only did 10.5 hours nights despite my best try. I don’t know if that many babies sleep 12 hours solidly tbh. I think 11 seems more common..So I just put him to bed at 8 so wake up was 6.30 as he just didn’t do more than 10.5/11.

My lo same as pp. Bed at 8pm, sometime 730pm depending if she had nursery and if naps been rubbish. Wake up between 630am and 7am.

When we changed bedtime it took about a week to see lo sleeping in. It can take 3 weeks.

We Added a supper. Ensure all blacked out every window and door. Pink noise to help those bloody birds waking lo up.

Keeping lo in room from 530am and doing what you can to get lo to sleep
