5 month old very sleepy

My 5 month old son’s naps are starting to worry me.
He has around 3.5-4 hours of day sleep on average but is still yawning a lot and rubbing his eyes. He naps anywhere between 45 mins and 2 hours at a time but the nap length makes little difference to awake time. I would say he is tired around 30 mins after waking as the yawns start. I usually try to get him back for a nap after an hour and 15 of awake time as otherwise we wouldn’t do anything else but nap if I did it after the second yawn. He gets hysterical after 105 mins of being awake.
This seems such a short amount of awake time for his age when most routines are saying anywhere between 2 and 3 hours of awake time!
Should I be stretching his wake windows or letting him nap whenever he wants? I’m also worried about having so much day sleep impacts his nights as he is often awake every hour after midnight.
