Can I handle this better for almost 14mo?

We're struggling with a transition to one daily nap for my almost 14mo DS.

He usually wakes around 6am and can barely do 3 hours awake before I'm he needs a nap. He used to do about 90 minutes at 9am and 90 minutes at 2pm, but bedtime was then getting so late and he started resisting that afternoon nap.

I've tried keeping him going until later in the morning but he gets absolutely miserable! On some days that morning nap can last 2.5 hours so he can quite easily get through to bedtime at around 7.30. Other days he'll wake after the usual 90 minutes and then either quite happily goes stays up until bedtime or gets grizzly at about 4pm.

I worry that he's sometimes awake for 8 hours between nap and bedtime which seems a lot for a 13mo!

Any other tricks I could try? Thanks!

Try waking him up from the morning one and putting him down earlier just after lunch in the afternoon. Ds only had a ten minute morning nap at 14 months.

I agree with pp.

For our lo we did at that age approx down at 9am. Asleep for 915am approx, Awake by 10am (they will be grumpy especially as used to that long morning nap) pop down again about 1pm, Awake by 330pm. Bed about 745pm.
