Early waking 3.5 and 7month old

Currently 3.5 year old and baby are tag teaming us with early wakeups that just keep getting earlier.

3.5 is regularly up before 5.30 and baby has put in a few efforts as early as 4.50 and it is killing us.
I feel I can manage babys early waking although if I wasn’t afraid that he would wake the big one I would probably leave him to fuss a bit longer in the morning to try and get him to settle.

so I really want to fix 3 year old before tackling baby.

on my list are:

  • black out curtains
-yoto player thing to tell him when it’s ok to get up / he can play an Audio book to get him back to sleep -returning to bed any time he gets up before 6 and stretching to 6.30 eventually

does anyone have any other tips? Or advise?

I got back to work in 10 weeks and at this rate won’t be safe to drive my commute 🙈

My 4 yo has never slept and is now waking consistently at 420am every day and won’t go back to sleep. We have black our curtains, white noise, star chart, have tried leaving him to cry but he breaks out of his room, let him in with us but he’s awake and won’t go back to sleep, earlier and later bed time. I literally feel like we have tried it all and NOTHING works. As a result I am a constant moody, tired, run down mum with an awful immune system and I just don’t know what to do!! I am watching with interest for suggestions! I feel for you with two! This is why we didn’t have more!!

Get black out curtains and put 3.5 year old to bed half an hour later.

They may still wake up because it is summer and light at 5.30am.

We have the same age gap and I’ve definitely been there. The way I look at it, you can try to get the older one to sleep later with blackout curtains, later bedtime etc but you can’t actually make them do it so focus on the part you can actually control which is them staying in their room and not disturbing the rest of the house. They need a clock- a gro clock or even a cheap digital alarm clock if they know their numbers and before the gro clock is green or the time starts with a 6 (whatever is acceptable to you) they stay in their room. Make sure they have a selection of quiet but interesting toys in there. Do a sticker chart and say if they manage 5 stickers then they can have a small treat.
