I am currently really struggling with my dd’s naps. She is 4.5 months old and screaming whenever we start the nap routine. The second the sleeping bag goes on she is beside herself.
I suspect this is partly due to wake windows. I am struggling to read her sleepy cues so guessing I am trying at the wrong time. She yawns pretty much from waking. The first few I assume is her waking up and then after that we get yawns throughout her time awake. Even after 90 min naps this happens.
I don’t think she is chronically overtired. She has 4-5 naps per day and each is about 45 mins to 1.5 hours. We do first nap 1 hour after waking so try to get the day off to a good start. She averages 4-4.5 hours of day sleep and 10-11 hours at night excluding feeds.
So do I put her down as soon as the yawns start??? This would mean she is having awake time of 20-30 mins which is so below the average of 1.5 to 2 hour wake window for her age! Im worried so much day sleep will mean she won’t sleep at night. Do yawns and eye rubbing always mean they are tired? Also when I try to get her to sleep after a shorter wake time (around an hour) there is often more resistance so perhaps she isnt tired enough. I thought she might be bored so have tried taking her out more in the pram etc but no change.
In case anyone is thinking I have the magical sleeping unicorn baby and living my best life, all these naps are happening on me as she won’t be put down or settle in cot, pram, etc. She wont nap on the go or outside the house. If she naps each time she yawns I will be nap trapped even more of the day. I might finish netflix at this rate 😂
