Baby rolls onto front but can't roll back!

My 5 month old consistently rolls onto his front all night! I put him down on his back but he fights it straight away and turns automatically onto his front or side.. I then wait for him to drop off and move him onto his back. Is this the right thing to do? I don't really know what to do apart from stay up all night to watch him (obviously not going to work!).

He is unable to roll back to his back at all and has shown no signs of being able to do this during tummy time (which we do sooo much of!)

Has anyone got any advice? So worries about SIDS!

My 10month old was the same when she was around that age (possibly 6 months). Loved being in her front but got frustrated she couldn’t move back on to her back. I did the same as you & rolled her over on to her back when she had fallen asleep. That phase didn’t last long as I think she was practising the movement lots at night. Once she could roll both ways I let her sleep however she wanted. However, I have read elsewhere that as long as they’re able to lift their head and have their face to the side / mouth not directly down on the mattress they can sleep on their bellies. Best check with HV though. I didn’t stay up all night watching her though. But if I happened to notice her on her belly I would flip her over. She was in our room for 8months so that helped.
