15wks bedtime confusion, help!

My EBF baby has never slept through the night and has always woken about every 3 hours, sometimes 4 if we're lucky but now he is waking me up every 2 hours with whimpering/fussing and what's weird is that I'm not convinced he is actually awake - his eyes are still closed but he's crying (loud whimpering more than actual crying). I generally feed him back to sleep but if he wakes up more he might fuss again. If I pick him up for a few seconds and put him down again, he stops and goes to sleep for maybe 5-10 mins before starting again, so I do it again and generally the second time he'll stay asleep for another 2 hours. I'm a bit confused. It could be a bit of reflux, could be teething, could be stomach upset, possible lactose intolerance, or could be 4 month sleep regression. With a bit of night time googling I'm now told it could be that our daytime nap routine is wrong (though everyone has a different opinion on what the correct one is!) and that he could be overtired, or that our bedtime routine needs work (we change into pjs, have a cuddle, very quick book and then nurse to drowsy), or that I'm not feeding him enough to get him through the night (I just give him the usual normal BF feed at bedtime). With all these different factors being thrown at me, I'm just confused. Why is he whimpering in his sleep every 2h and waking me up? Not sure what to do!

Sounds like 4 month sleep regression.

Keep doing what you're doing.

My DC did the same. Usually I could plonk the dummy in his mouth and that would settle him. Or pop a hand on his chest to calm him for a minute (I had a next to me so would lie in bed and reach over to do this).
