Leap 5 - Send Help!

Just wondering if anyone has any leap 5 survival stories?! I am absolutely broken. My baby boy was always a great sleeper until we hit the 4m sleep regression and it all went to pot - we just seemed to be coming out the other side and enter leap 5! We thought at first his sleep had gone off because we went on holiday and he had a bit of a viral infection but it’s still awful. He goes down for 1.5 hours and then wakes up every 30mins for the rest of the night with me having to be up a good hour or so in between with him to get him back down in his cot without waking up. He will also only nap on me and whilst I still love the cuddles, I can’t get anything done 😫The WW app says we have 10 days left so wondered if others found that their baby went back to normal (or at least improved!) at the end of the leap? TIA 😊x

Im with you!! I although your are at a slight advantage, I have 14 days left 😫😫
but I’m the exact same, we were finally getting over the 4 month regression then boom, multiple awakenings. Wanted cuddled but also kicking me away. She has also started this this of waking squealing!! And during the day she literally smiles and cries in the same second. Can’t leave the room, can’t get ready. Used to love bedtime for some me time now I put her to bed and watch the monitor waiting for her to waken 😭😭 from talking to other mums it does get better. I just keep reminding myself that we survived leap 4 and that was rough!

I feel your pain, we have been having a really rough time with our little girl. Apparently we have one day left of leap 5. We’ve had around 6 weeks of multiple wakings every night. Usually every two hours but at some points it’s been every hour. She wakes up and cries hysterically. Normally we can settle her by rocking her to sleep but now she only wants to feed to sleep. I am absolutely drained. Before this she was sleeping through the night so we had been very lucky!

I did manage to put her down in the crib for her nap this afternoon. She only lasted half an hour but maybe it’s a sign that things will start improving.

No words of wisdom, but you’re not alone.

Can I ask what the WW app is? I have a 3 month old who is an amazing sleeper.. sleeps 10-11 hours solid at night without a peep so I'm scared for the 4 month regression..

My honest response, delete the stupid app and stop stressing. Obsessing about 'leaps' is a self filling prophecy as you end up looking for problems. Just enjoy your child, the good and the tough phases (and remember everything is just a phase). Treating them like they're on some kind of magic timetable, and then worrying about what an app says, is pressure and worry parents don't need. I've never once looked up what leap my now 16 month DD is on, and she's absolutely fine

Honest question, do you really think in 14 days time your DC is going to magically know they're supposed to stop doing whatever it is they are currently doing that is causing problems? You can't micro manage a baby like that, and you will find the tougher parts so much more stressful if you are counting down on a calendar. Sometimes they go through phases of crap sleep, but everything passes in it's own time, and you just have to ride it out

Wonder Weeks app is discredited junk science, so don't worry about how many days you have left of whatever 'leap'. It's nonsense.

I must admit…I’m not sure I trust the WW app all that much anymore. The day came for leap 5 to be over and DS slept like a dream that night. I couldn’t believe it - I could have cried I was so happy. After that one night though, his sleep has been truly awful again yet the app is showing that it should all be wonderful again. Humph!

@Aims17 just wondering how things are now? I’m currently in the exact same boat - my previous good sleeper is now waking hourly and I’m putting it down to teeth, learning to sit up, recovering from Covid and possibly leap 5. It would be nice to know whether things got better for you 😀

Aims17 · 01/09/2022 20:27

@MrsB902 Hi 😄 Apologies for the delay! Sorry to say that aside from 3 random nights, sleep has continued to be rubbish 😩 the max DS will do is 2 hours and I kind of put up with it because he was thankfully quick to settle after each waking but gradually the settling has taken longer and longer and recently it was taking about 10 attempts to put him down without waking him! It feels like leap 5 just never ended. We started sort of doing pick up put down last week because I’m back at work in October and (aside from the first night because it was horrible) it had actually been going really well. He’d still wake a few times at the start of the night but then we were getting 5/6 hours which is the best sleep I’ve had for months. It seems to have gone to pot since Sunday though and funnily enough when I looked at the WW app (which I’d been ignoring) it said we started leap 6… Now I don’t know whether we’re supposed to continue the sleep training through the leap or leave it until he’s settled down again. Urgh. How are you getting on since your post? Any improvement??
