Tummy sleep

why is it okay for baby to roll on tummy but not for me to put him on his tummy? It just doesn’t make sense, he’s going to roll on his tummy either way why can’t I save us both waking up by putting him to sleep on his tummy

Because research showed that putting them to sleep on their backs greatly reduces the SIDS risk and it should be continued Until their first birthday.
That said they can be left on their front if that's where they roll to as let's be honest you can't watch them all night:

I feel your pain though! I agonized over the same thing with my first who had silent reflux and just wanted to be on his stomach 🙄
