Changing from a cot to a bed - How?

Okay, we got DD (19m) a bed last week and put it up in her room near her cot. At first she didn't really like it but she will play at lying down in it during the day when we play upstairs. Last night we put her down in the bed instead and she got very upset when we left the room so we popped her back in the cot & she was fine.
I'm expecting my second baby in 3 weeks and although it would be handy to have the cot I don't mind buying a second one in the meantime.
How do I go about getting her used to the bed? I really have no idea how to approach this.

Put the cot away otherwise you'll be tempted to put her back in.

How about letting her choose some bedding ? We'll be trying to get dd into her 'big bed' in a different room in a few weeks time and have some Peppa Pig bedding on the way. As well as other things like fairy lights which I'm hoping will make the room more appealing (am I kidding myself here??). Maybe if you consider changing some of the other things in her room - not just the cot - she would respond ? Good luck - I'm sure I'll be facing the same problem soon. But I agree with sophierosie on not putting her back in the cot.

is she crying because she can see the cot? When all ours have changed to a bed then the cot has been gone so there was no choice. Also either got them a nice duvet or made sure their familiar toys etc were around. We just moved dd2 about 5 nights ago and she has been fine.
However I have moved all of mine a bit younger[around 12/13mths]

Read her bedtime stories together snuggled up on the bed so that she gets used to it and feels happy and relaxed lying there

Sorry for the hijack, but Nemo, why did you put them in a bed at that age?

My DS is nearly 14 months and I hadn't considered putting him in a bed yet.

jojay ds we moved because he was trying to vault over the rails so it was safer. DD1 we moved because dd2 was born when she was 12mths so wanted the cot and couldnt really afford another. DD2 we just moved as she is walking and able to climb on and off bed and it had gone so smoothly with the other 2 I just went for it. She has been fine, like ds and dd1 she got out the bed a few times first 2 nights and now has been fine and slept in bed for last 3 nights with no problems at all.
