As a had already have 3 kids i know that i should know this already but am a little rusty. Have a 7 1/2 week old (he was slightly unexpected and it's 5 1/2 yrs since i last had a baby and have forgotten everything!) how do you get a baby into a routine for sleeping? At the moment he's in the living room with us until he's had his 10.30 feed when we all troop upstairs and he goes into his cot but he's wide awake from his 7 30 feed till he has his 10.30 bottle which i think is due to the fact that there's too much going on in living room, too bright, tv noise etc. How old should he be when i put him down in cot after 7.30 bottle, I'm sure with my other 3 it was before now but new baby is a bit of a sicker & i'm slightly worried that he'll be sick & choke if i'm not standing over him. He has his immunisations next week so shall i try afer these?

KathH, congratulations on your wee one. Personally I started doing the boob, bath and bed for 7pm thing right from the start then lifting him for a sleepy feed at 10.30pm. I'd then leave him sleeping for as long as he wanted until waking to be fed again. As for the sickiness - I'd swaddle him on his side and slightly raise his cot mattress to let any missed wind escape easily. You could always pop in and out to reassure everythings ok. Good luck.
