Is 4 month sleep regression a thing?

My baby is 15 weeks old and has been sleeping beautifully for the last 4-5 weeks for 8-9 hours at night time. The last couple of nights she has woken for a feed at 3am and then wanted another at her usual 7.30/8am wake up time. It’s like going back a couple of months. I’ve read about 4 month sleep regression but my 3 friends who have older babies, said it never happened to them and maybe it’s a growth spurt.
Anyone else experienced this?

No 4 month regression here, DD was always a pretty good sleeper as a baby

Yep, it's a scientific developmental thing. www.sleepfoundation.org/baby-sleep/4-month-sleep-regression
And all babies are different.

It's definitely a thing. At 4 months, their sleep cycles change, so they experience lighter sleep. This can mean they struggle to get back to sleep without help. Not all babies are affected of course. My oldest went from 1 wake up to 2 a night. My youngest went from sleeping 8-4 and 4-6/7 to waking 6-10 times a night for the next 5 months!

Yes absolutely. I would say you are unfortunate to have three friends saying that, and need one in the group like me who didn't get any sleep till 14 months.

In terms of your baby, wonder weeks app is very helpful and should reassure you as to where your baby is. It is amazing to me you have had such wonderful sleep so far, remember that every day and every baby is different.

Thankfully, 4 month regression passed us by with just a couple extra night feeds here and there... 6 months however, sleep went to crap and I wondered if I'd ever feel human again...
However, currently 9 months and, touch wood, nada yet on the 8/9 month one.
There are so many developmental changes that can screw with sleep, personally the idea of a sleep regression just makes it feel normal and more manageable for me. Rather than "this is life now. I'll never sleep again". 🤣

Never believed in them until it happened. Went from 7-8 hours solid at night to waking every 1-2 hours! Short lived though (couple of weeks).

Northernmama123 · 15/06/2022 22:15

Thanks all. I’m hoping it’s short lived, other than that she’s a really good baby who naps pretty much at the same times during the day

Sleep can regress at any time up to about a year and possibly further.

Do not listen to people who claim it only happens at set months of age.

Twdfn123 · 16/06/2022 19:26

Mine had one at about 4 months but it lasted about a week and it just consisted of waking up at 2am for a feed but he still went back down again after. After the week he just went back and at 6 months he now sleeps 630pm to 7am with no wake ups. Just complete luck of the draw I guess 😳🤷‍♀️

Northernmama123 · 16/06/2022 22:16

@Twdfn123 Thats great :) She actually slept til 7am this morning after being but to bed at 9am so it looks like it was just for a few days. Although she’s been a bit grumbly with the heat tonight so only just gone off 🙈
