Please reassure me the bairn's arms won't be cold!

I'm a FTM confused about how to dress baby at night in the summer. The room reaches 23 C some nights so far and I'm reading some things that say 'a vest and a 1 tog sleeping bag' and other things that say dress your baby like yourself... but I always need to be super toasty to sleep. I feel like I can't sleep unless my arms are covered and I'm wearing socks - even at 23 C. I don't think I am the best judge of how to appropriately dress - so what do you dress your LO in at that temp? Can you reassure me her arms won't be cold if I put her in a vest even though my arms would be cold!? TIA. X

Do you have any long sleeved vests?

dalmatianmad · 11/06/2022 22:40

Long sleeved vest or a sleep suit with no vest?

GiltEdges · 11/06/2022 22:41

Personally I'd probably go long sleeved vest and 1 tog sleeping bag.

I've got DS in long sleeve vest and 1.5 tog sleeping bag Smile

Def not socks! My bairn is in a long sleeve thinning cotton vest, but a 2.5 tog bag, because his room does genuinely get chilly as it has 3 outside walls. We were at my mum’s last week and he was in a 1 tog bag and long sleeve vest there.

*thinnish not thinning 🤣

My 4 month old baby gets freezing cold hands yet it never seems to bother her! I dress her in long sleeved vest and sleepsuit and 2.5 tog sleeping bag and her hands still get cold. I just warm them up when I feed her.

You judge a baby’s temp by their chest not their hands or feet. At 23 degrees even if baby has cold arms they aren’t getting hypothermia - basically if they sleep rather than cry you’re good! I’m in a flat so never really gets too cold and in summer a short sleeve vest is fine for my baby in her sleep bag

She sounds a bit too wrapped up! Weirdly it’s not uncommon at all for baby’s hands and feet to be cold when their body temp is not cold, it’s to do with an underdeveloped circulation system.
