i read a thread on here once about someone making their own bumper out of pieces of cardboard!
i had one of those black, white & red book/toy things, by tinytalk i think, which you strap along the side of the cot for baby to look at. this worked really well for ages with a bumper on the other side. if you felt the need to buy something get something different it won't feel like such a waste of money.
most people buy bumpers and don't use them or don't use them for long so maybe you could borrow one for a while. he will grow out of this, he's just getting used to being able to move his limbs around. the novelty wears off.

I just tuck a flat sheet under the mattress on one side (the side that the limb is slipping through the bars) and then hang it over the side of the cot, if you see what I mean. It stays pretty secure like this, though it's in a cotbed with (presumably) a bigger mattress to anchor the sheet.

I almost freaked when I saw a little arm hanging through the side of the cot the first time!
