A and E all night!

Hi everyone,

So my 14 month old had an accident and burnt his hand last night. We went to A & E last night and thankfully it's a superficial burn. Unfortunately as you know emergency departments are a nightmare and we ended up being in there until near on midnight.

When we got home I put LO straight to bed, but he woke up 4 hours later and was on and off from there. Today he has pretty much dosed/slept on md all day and been super clingy.

Is he traumatised? Or just hugely overtired?

Also, if he's been sleeping on and off all day - what do I do at bedtime? Early bed to reset everything?

Many thanks!

Hiya, glad it's a superficial burn. I have been in hospital overnight with my baby a few times (UTI, breathing problems etc) and the next night I tried to just follow the routine as normal and it always seemed to iron itself out within 2 days. Overtiredness is rubbish, just let them nap but not too late and just accept it might be a bit patchy for a few days.

Tired.

Aimee1987 · 29/04/2022 15:24

Glad its superficial.

I would say overtired mostly. But even a superficial burn can be sore so it may be a tough od that as well. Did the docs advise any pain relief?

@thingymaboob oh that's awful. I'm sorry to hear. It's so frightening isn't it?

Thank you! I'll definitely do that.

Xx

@Aimee1987 that's what I keep worrying about. No, nothing and I was so stressed that when he said it was superficial i just was so relieved. I feel like an idiot now.

Do you have any advice.

In his happier moments today he's been clapping his hands and not wincing in pain or anything, so assume that's a positive?

He's barely eaten either! Thankfully I still breastfeed, so he's just been on boob all day!

Paracetamol (Calpol) or ibuprofen ( nurofen) are both pretty decent over the counter pain meds.

Hope lo sleeps better tonight.

@Aimee1987 thank you! Such a better night and he's back to his happy self again.
