Waking screaming

My 13m old wakes multiple times screaming in the night. He is inconsolable - nothing helps to settle him. I am at my wits end, I just don’t know what is wrong or what to do. It is breaking my heart to see him so upset and I’m broken with the sleep deprivation. I thought it would be better by now. Has anybody had similar? I don’t know what I am doing wrong

Im in exactly the same boat with 11 month old. He sobs and thrashes around even when being cuddled, but howls and sits / stands up if put back in his cot. He’s never been a great sleeper but we are at an all time low 🙁 my eldest never did this so I am totally lost! I’ve been researching night terrors but not sure if he’s a bit young?! Really really hoping it’s a (short) phase…

Teething? My DD was like this with molars coming through. It lasted a couple of weeks but then she settled down
