Floor bed advice!

Hi - I've ended up co-sleeping with DD. She's 11mo (nearly 10mo corrected age as she was 5 weeks prem). I would like to move her into her own room and we've decided on a floor bed, as she really hates the cot, to the point of becoming really distressed for a while, even once she is taken back out. My evening is currently ending at 7pm when DD goes to bed as it isn't safe to leave her in our bed. So we're pretty decided we need to change something.

It would be great to hear opinions on:

  • single floor bed with temporary fold out mattress for me next to it or double floor bed that I can sneak out of once DD is asleep.
  • rails or no rails
  • what others have done to babyproof the room (DD is crawling)

Any other useful advice from people who've taken this route would also be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I co slept with mine on a double mattress which was on the floor in his room. At just over 2, he graduated to his own bed. An ikea junior bed: Sniglar and matching mattress. Cut its legs off so it was flush with the floor and now at 3.5, he has always slept well. Safety considerations, no rail but we did order a big rug to go under the bed. He has a biggish room so just made sure all furniture fixed to walls eg Malm drawers and bookcase. His room is very sparse. It's bed, bookcase, malm drawers and then a toy chest. Hope this helps.

Thank you for this. How did the transition to his own bed go and do you think you could have done it any earlier successfully?

Went well. Could have done it earlier but when he was 2 he was able to verbalise and understand what was happening.
