What weight does a baby need to be to fit into a 0-6 months baby sleeping bag? Help

I think it says in them. I want to say the ones I had were 10lb as mine was slightly less that when born.

LazyYogi · 09/04/2022 22:10

Yes, it usually says on the label. If you have a branded one it probably says online somewhere. But as pp said I think it's 10lbs too. I think you also have to check that their head can't slip inside the neck?

Babysleepingbag · 09/04/2022 22:11

Thank you. Mine is over the 10lbs weight and it doesn't appear that the head will fit through the gaps of the shoulder straps but it looks awfully baggy everywhere including the chest and at the arm holes so I am just not sure that material could potentially roll up and cover babies face. I can't find any smaller ones anywhere

I wasn't confident enough to use one til about 6 months when dc was that bit bigger.

seaduck · 09/04/2022 22:12

I think it's just so that their head is big enough that they can't get the sleeping bag over their head by wriggling down. Or maybe 10lb?

Babysleepingbag · 09/04/2022 22:13

I think I may leave it until baby is a bit older just to be sure

Honestly they are all strangely sized! My 2 month old has 5.

2 are way too small even though the label says she will fit it

Another 2 the neck seems very tight

And the last one fits perfectly but the label says she's way too small for it so again I panic as I want to keep her safe.

I've started putting lots of layers on her and blankets as my anxiety plays up with putting her in the sleeping bags! 😂

Baby sleeping bags are stressful 🤣

Try a tommee tippee grobag or a love2dream arms up swaddle instead. Mine preferred those until she was big enough to go into a sleeping bag.

Pyri · 09/04/2022 22:15

The grobag little baby ones are fine from birth, you should also check if they can be swaddled (ie arms inside them) which would take up some of the slack if the sleeping bag!

ReadyToMoveIt · 09/04/2022 22:15

Mine went in them from birth. The ones I had were 8lbs +, and my babies were all 8lbs something.

I used ones like this when mine were very small, I used them pretty much from newborn and they fitted well.

These exact ones are what we used, just a higher tog!

Thanks all. I'm looking now online at the Tommee Tippee ones now. Out of curiosity, if your not using a sleeping bag/grobag can hat are you using for the baby at night? Is it best to swaddle baby in a breathable blanket or ?

My baby won't allow us to swaddle her so we put a vest, all in one and a cardigan on her as well as socks on her hands to keep them warm 🙈 We then have 2 blankets that she was using in nicu and tuck them in so they won't move, they're fairly thin blankets x

Sorry forgot to mention, the TT ones are the ones we always found very small on our baby, but she is very large so that may be the reason 😊

Try the 2-6 month swaddlebag by ergo. You can pop open the sides to use as sleeping bag or button up to use as swaddle. Much better sized than the gro company bags (now tommee Tippee)
Ellie5341 · 15/04/2022 22:37

Sorry I meant 3/4 months we used them from not 6.

Before that we used a cellular blanket wrapped slightly snug but low, then another cellular low tucked in both sides.
Room was about 18-19.5 degrees.

I found with sleeping bags as soon as you find a brand you like, it's best to stick with them as they are all different shapes and fits.
