My 13 week old doesn't sleep during the day

She's been awake for over six hours now. She only ever sleeps on me during th day, usually having fed to sleep, but now even that isn't working. She goes dozy while she's on the breast, but as soon as I unlatch her, she's awake again.

Her night sleep is erratic: she's had the odd night of sleeping through, but last night was awake for three hours from 1-4am.

Help! What am I doing wrong, and what can I do to help her? She's so sad.

Little one is overtired, which can cause long waking at night.

Do everything you can to get lo to sleep. Swaddle, dummy, a walk, white noise, sling, bouncy chair anything x x

Did sling; she slept for 20 minutes and woke up; just pushed her in the pram for an hour and she's still awake. She doesn't like a funny, swaddle or white noise. She likes her bouncy chair but doesn't sleep in it.

I know she's overtired, but I don't know what to do about it! ☹️

Oh, poor you. Try not to get stressed, you'll get stressed, she'll get (more) stressed, everything will go downhill.

I used to go out for a walk with mine in the sling, rather than just popping her in and carrying on with my day. It always worked quite well and everything feels a bit less intense and more reasonable when you're outside in the fresh air. She didn't sleep in the pram until she was about one. Can you get her snugged up to you and get out and about?

I also used to just stick a film on and bounce her in my arms, she'd wake up if I sat down but as long as I was bouncing her she was fine.

None of these things sound ideal, but this phase will be gone as quickly as it came and I'd do anything for a film and a bounce with her now. Just keep going x

Bump

When my lo got tired at this age, I would do a cheeky bed nap. Making sure room dark, feed lay down with lo in bed and she would fall asleep. Then I wouldn't dare move....

Nelliephant1 · 06/04/2022 15:24

None of mine were nappers during the day. Every baby is different and not all need the hours and hours of sleep that others do.

They'd often drop off for 20mins or so in the car on the way to somewhere but that's as much as we'd get and that was them until 9 or 10pm. Some babies/ adults just don't need a lot of sleep.

Thank you all Flowers I've tried all of these, but none seems to be working.

I wouldn't mind her not sleeping if she didn't need it, but she just seems so exhausted and sad when she doesn't sleep. I know 13 weeks is still young, but I feel sick at heart at the thought of doing this for the next however many months!
