4 month sleep regression!

Hello

My little boy is 4 months old and for the past couple of weeks his night time sleep has got worse. He’s gone from either sleeping 7-7 or waking around 4am for a quick feed to waking for a feed at midnight then waking every couple of hours and starting his day at 6.15.

I’ve been reading about the sleep regression and wonder if this is the cause.

He can settle himself to sleep without a dummy/cuddles/feed so I know he is capable of sleeping, so I’m at a loss as to what to do.

Just wanted to get some other experiences. Thank you in advance! X

If he is self settling at bedtime then it isn't due to any sleep associations which is normally what causes the frequent wakeups during the 4 month sleep regression. Could he be overtired/undertired? Maybe his naps or wake windows need to be adjusted a bit now that he's a bit older? I'm in the same boat with a 5 month old that self settles but wakes every few hours all night.

I’ve tried cutting his naps down a bit today 🤞 He’ll sleep for around 3 hours at lunchtime but woke him after 2 hours today and he’s now having 30 mins before bedtime. Will see how he goes! Eek!

I would say too much sleep in a 24-hour period, so to speak, and as pp said that wake windows may need to be adjusted a bit. I think I would debate putting lo to bed a little later if cutting down naps doesn't work.

A 3 hour afternoon nap + other naps and 12 hours overnight definitely sounds like he could be undertired to me, that's a lot of sleep! Maybe start cutting back by 15 mins a day and see if it helps?
