6 Month Old 5am Wake

DS is six months and has started doing a 6-8 hour stretch at night which is great. However he then wakes at 5am and will go back to sleep if left in his cot, but then wakes 40 mins later, and again we leave him, and most of the time he will go back for another 40 mins (one sleep cycle). However I’m concerned he’s not getting good quality sleep from 5am onwards. Can’t think he’s hungry as he has a feed at 2-3am ish. I have tried feeding at 5am and he’ll go back but still wake 40 mins later. Is this normal? He used to wake every four hours but sleep until 7/7.30am.

Am I worrying unnecessarily? He goes to bed around 7pm, has black out, white noise and sleep bag. Can self settle, especially at night, bottle fed since last month and having a bit of food.

Nap-wise, we are still largely on 40 min catnaps. However his first nap of day is fairly consistently over an hour now, sometimes 1hr30. But others are only one sleep cycle still. I try not to put him down before 2 hours awake. But he starts looking tired after 1hr30. Could this be causing 5am wake? I don’t really want to start cutting short his first nap as this is the only one currently that is longer!

I wouldn't worry, sounds like a relatively good setup. Their little routines change all the time at that age. Wouldn't be surprised if it changed again in a couple of weeks!

Lyndsey Hookaway is good on Instagram if you want to keep an eye on "what's normal". Spoiler alert: the very vast majority is normal.
