Swaddling

I have started to swaddle my DS who will be 11 weeks tomorrow. A couple of people have told me it isn't safe. One said it puts them at risk of SIDS and another said that they need to be able to move their arms as that is how they keep themselves warm. I was surprised as he was swaddled by the midwifes in the hospital. Anyone know if these things are true? He certainly seems to sleep better when I do it.

i dont see how it would cause a prob. Id speak to hv to check but you could try leaving one arm slightly looser so its up nearer his face so he CAN move if he wants. If he likes to swaddle and SLEEPS and he isnt ill you got to do what you can to get sleep! Many people swaddle past 6 months! My ds hated it! Has slept in sleeping bag since 8 weeks!

Some babies do like been swaddled. My ds hated it but two of the babies I have looked after slept well when swaddled. I bought an organic cotton swaddling blanket from blooming marvellous. As long as they are not overheating i don't think its a problem.
