Time to drop the nap?!

I’m wondering if it may be time to drop my son’s nap. He’s 2y9m and until a few months ago would sleep from 7.30pm-7.45am with a nap from 1-3pm. However, for a couple of months he’s been protesting and getting upset at bedtime and settling for naps and also waking early in the morning upset. I first moved his nap to 1.30pm, then reduced it further to now where he’s only having 45mins. He’s still calling out for us at bedtime though and today was up at 6am. Is it time to bid farewell to it or offer some quiet time in the afternoon and an early bed instead?

I think his nap may be too late in the day, if his bedtime is 7.30pm. If he is settling well for his nap then I think he may still need it, but try to make it earlier and shorten it so that there's a bigger gap until bedtime.

Try quiet time instead.

When mine were transitioning to no nap we'd snuggle and put on a film. Sometimes they slept sometimes they didn't but they at least got a rest. Either that or I'd plan to be out doing errands with them in the pushchair at nap time. Again sometimes they'd sleep sometimes they wouldn't

@MummyLovesVS He’s been fighting it no matter what time we tried. He’ll eventually go off but given I was only letting him sleep for 30-40 mins it didn’t seem worth a 20 min battle.

@Twizbe We’ve been doing quiet time in front of the tv or some books. He’s ended up having a little 15 min doze in the car or pushchair a couple of times this week so I think I just need to be flexible for now until he’s more comfortable managing so long awake. I miss the nice long nap already! 😭
