Removing dummy and comforter

My 22m DS only uses a dummy to sleep but he has started biting big holes in them. I bought 4 new ones yesterday and he's almost through 2 of them already. I'm going to have to take them away for his safety, but the issue I have is that they're also his comforter. He never took to any of the toys/blankets we tried him with, the only thing he likes is one dummy in his mouth and the other in his hand. I feel cruel taking both his sleep aid and his comforter away at once. Has anyone had any success with introducing a comforter at this age? Or are we just going to have to go cold turkey with both? Sad
