HELP

DS2 has been ill, but is now better. Problem is that when he was ill he needed me in the night and of course I went to him. He now thinks that it[s perfectly Ok to call mummy in the night.

His timing is uncanny...he goes to bed (a cot) at 7 and sleeps peacefully until teh minute we set foot in our bed at 10pm and then wakes up and shouts, "mummy, muuuuuummmmmy, mmmmuuuuuummmmmy". Last night we decided to go cold turkey and do controlled crying which worked with ds1 when he was the same age. ANyway, the crying went on intermittently for 2 and a half hours last night before he fell asleep. We went in twice to make sure he was ok, but didn't pick him up and didn't talk to him other than to say, "go to sleep".

I have never met a more stubborn and determined child. Please help - any advice would be greatfully recieved. He's always been a good sleeper up till now. How long is this going to go on...not sure i can face another night like last night.

He's nearly 2 by the way

thanks

It will only last 3-4 nights if you stick to your guns and don't change rountine. You've never met my dd1 - the most stubborn, awkard, demanding, challenging, determined child ever. She's 8 now and every day is a battle!

Hope it's better tonight. If he's been a good sleeper before, hopefully he can get back to it, but you'll need to stick to your guns.

thanks guys - just to update. On Friday he cried for about half an hour and thereafter nothing - has slept through every night. Last night I heard him calling mummy, mummy twice, and then he went back to sleep.

I hate doing controlled crying, i feel sick when he cries for me in the night, but it does work and teh added bonus is that he's much happier now during the day as he's having a whole night's sleep instead of waking up 50 times!

Unfortunately ds1 woke up about 10 times on sunday night to ask if it was time to get up as he is so excited about going back to school!
