Tonight is the night!!! Any night weaning advice?

One year old still co sleeps and has tiny little comfort feeds all night long.

My DH is going away for a week and I intend to night wean while he is away (I think I'll be better doing it on my own or we end up disagreeing and arguing at 3am!)

My plan is to go cold Turkey on the boob between 8pm and 8am. He's not having full feeds anyway just little comfort suckles all night. I plan to try and settle him just with cuddles and some water and hopefully in a couple of nights he will get the message that the milk bar is closed.

Any advice for me?

I used controlled crying to night wean. It took 3/4 nights.

I swapped feed and story round at bedtime so it was story just before bed.

They'd go to sleep well but when they woke up I'd go in, give dummy back for eldest, make sure they had their snuggy, made sure I couldn't smell poo, rub their tummy and say shhh night time. Then I'd leave. I'd not pick them up or offer water etc.

Wait 2 mins and if still crying go back and repeat the tummy rub and leave. Wait 4 mins the 6,8 and finally 10 mins.

First time it took a while for them to go to sleep, but each night got easier.

Good luck

I did it with my first whe she was three. I did it a little more gradually, allowed it to get her to sleep because it worked really well and got her to sleep quickly, but if she tried during the night I would tell her no booby is asleep now. I'd offer hugs instead and after a couple of nights she got it. We had tears the first few nights though. Then when I got fed up of that I would just offer hugs and say no to kore booby. Felt gentle enough but still offered some comfort as mine was quite the booby monster.

How did the night weaning go @easysundaymorning? I need to do something with my 12 month old. Thinking tonight might be the night to stop feeding overnight!
