How long did it take for your LO to get back to sleep without crying? Tonight will be night five of the plan, and I’m amazed by how well it’s going so far. We’ve gone from him waking every 30-40 mins in the night and only spending 1-2hrs in his cot a night, to him sleeping 9 hours in his cot and 2-4 wakeups each night. He is 7mo.

I’m so pleased we are making progress, but I’m worried about how long the crying will go on while we try to soothe him in his cot and put him down awake. The last two nights when I’ve put him down for the night, he’s done sleepy chatting for about 10 mins, then a little grumbling and fallen asleep. But in the night when he wakes I am feeding him every 3-4 hours, and then when I put him down he falls back to sleep in 10ish mins, but with crying. On the non-feed wakeups it’ll take 10-25 mins and he will cry for most of that. I understand there will be some tears as we are doing something new here (before he was put down asleep, and fed or rocked to sleep), but will he eventually go to sleep in his cot happily? I’m not sure I would be able to carry on if we have weeks of tears when he’s put down awake.

Also I wanted to ask how successful you were in starting to move away from the cot? Tonight we are meant to move the chair away a bit and have less in put. So far I’ve been finding the most success with helping him to sleep by patting the cot mattress, but I just can’t see him falling asleep with out constant support.

Thanks in advance x

I never managed to actually retreat from the cot, but the t chnqiue still worked for me. We went from 8-10 wakes to 2-3 without retreating at all. That process took about ten days or so, there was a lot of crying and it was hard. My son only slept through a few months later after being night weaned though... Good luck, it does work!

@user1471518119 thanks so much for replying. After the 10 days did the crying lessen or stop? To be honest I’m happy with the results already, and if I don’t manage to move away from the cot that’s also fine with me, as I think the fact that he’s falling asleep in his cot means he’s not waking up confused/upset after falling asleep in our arms any more. Plus shhing and patting is much much easier than rocking/feeding and then trying to put him down 5+ times and failing 😖
