2 nap schedule - wake windows for 10mo

My nearly 10mo has been on 2 naps for a while now and it's working well. However, as he's getting older his wake windows are obviously naturally increasing. It feels like there's not enough time in the day now though!

He wakes at 6.30, his first wake window is approx 2hr45hrs and his second wake window is pushing 4hrs. His last wake window before bed is then obviously shorter than the second if that makes sense, which seems not quite right.

I know over time he will move to 1 nap but everything I've read says that won't happen yet for quite a few months so I'm just wondering how you schedule 2 naps in your day?! Should I be capping a nap somewhere? 😊

If it works and lo isn't overtired, go with it.

If it’s working then don’t change it. If it’s not, then you could try pushing bedtime a little later or, if that doesn’t suit you (and it would never suit us, I’m a teacher so have to get a good three hours work in per evening) then you could cap a nap.

Disclaimer: I am advising based on friends’ children - my own only ever napped for 28 minutes at a time so it was more a case of remove a nap than cap one 🤦🏻‍♀️

How long are each of his naps @greygiraffe1 ? 😊

@ChittyBang1987 @Timeturnerplease - thank you that's reassuring me that maybe I should just run with it for now seen as it works okay.

@RS29 it varies. It always totals about 2hr30 but it can either be one 2hr nap, one 30 mins or split into two more equal naps. Varies from day to day really 😊

I used to do 9.15-10am (ish), waking them after 45mins of sleep. Then down for second nap at 12/12.30 and left to sleep as long as they like. Usually awake 2.30/3 latest. Bed 6.30/7.

Mine sleeps 9-10 and 1-2 or rarely 1-3. She's up by 6 and in bed by 7. Works for us.

@greygiraffe1 mine was exactly the same at that age 😊 I’d just roll with it just now. Do whatever works 😊
Mine went through 3 or 4 variations of the 2 nap stage before he finally dropped to 1 nap recently at 14.5months 😊

They’re all so different but I found that mine always needed the morning nap but the afternoon one started getting a bit more hit and miss and that would affect bedtime. When that started happening I capped his morning nap at 1hour then let him do up to 1.5hours in the afternoon.

I also really had to pay attention to the end of his last nap. At that age I think the latest I’d let mine wake from his last nap was 3pm. Then 7/7.30 bed. As he got a bit older I capped it at 2.30pm. I have friends who just went with whatever and bedtime was whenever (could be 7pm one day, 9pm the next etc depending on naps) and that really worked for them but I work and my partner works away from home for weeks at a time so for us it was important that we try and keep bedtime the same where we could to give me the time I needed in the evenings to cook DSs meals etc for the next day and get myself sorted as I’m up at 5am for work.

I think I read somewhere that the awake times in the day between sleep/naps should be 2h, 3h, 4h then bed.

Obviously the baby doesn't know this Grin but trying to work loosely around this idea will hopefully guide you.
