Safe to use a comforter?

My DD is just over 6 months old. She's always been pretty good at self settling but recently becoming more of a struggle. I'm wondering could I try introducing a comforter? I'm a bit confused as to whether they're safe or not in terms of SIDS risk.

She seems to love sucking on muslins during the day and tries to suck on her sleeping bag at night but recently getting frustrated by this. She won't keep a dummy in at all.

I've seen some lovely muslin small comfort blankets which state they are breathable fabric. Would these be safe at her age?

Think it's a year?

I thought it was about 7 months.

DS started nursery at 9 months and they recommended we brought one in then.

My 5 month old likes to fall asleep holding/sucking a muslin (usually he feeds to sleep actually but for re-settling or buggy naps he uses a muslin).

I just remove it as soon as he has fallen asleep. Obviously that means you would have to give it/take it away during nighttime wake ups which is annoying but I agree with pp I think it’s a year before the can have bedding etc loose in cot (might be wrong though).

Sometimes just holding his hand during a nighttime wake up is enough to resettle my ds.

You're probably right. I'm just a nervous wreck off anything in cot that is soft etc. So I'm a mean mum and she doesn't have anything loose in her cot even at 11 months old 😆

Agree with PP - think it’s a year so if used before then you’d need to remove when asleep. Agree with PP too in that there’s nothing in DS’s cot other than a couple of dummies and him!

Thanks everything for the advice. I'll hold off for now then. I have read SIDS guidance saying clear cot until 12m old but then seen advice on other websites about trying a comforter which is why I got a bit confused.
