Waking up hourly crying, phase or something wrong?

My little boy is days away from being 6 months old. Since 4 months (regression) he has woke up a lot at night, but the past 2 weeks I'll be lucky if he wakes up hourly, sometimes it can be every 20 minutes.
I originally thought maybe teething, so was giving him pain relief, teething granuals bonjela etc but nothing helped and in the day he is very laid back and settled, never cries for anything in the day.

Then I thought maybe reflux, as he had it for the first few months quite bad. So dr started him on omeprazal (unsure how to spell it) but still no difference

He just randomly starts crying in the night, appears to still be asleep, definitely tired, I'm at my wits end, I don't know if he's in pain or what's wrong with him

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a phase ? Or pain?

Most likely hunger.

I was also going to suggest he might be hungry - are you breast or bottle feeding? Their appetite increases a lot around 5 months, it might be your supply hasn't increased enough or you need to up his bottles? I was having the same problem and tried a few days bottle feeding only so I knew how much she was getting (some expressed milk and some formula). I am fairly certain her intake increased as a result of this and we had an instant reduction it night wakings, now only waking once a night for feed although still occasionally at other times and needing resettling, but this is quick. Could be worth trying? I had got to the point of being happy to try anything!

My LO was like this at 6 months. Was the absolute worst sleep period we've had with her. I wound myself up in knots trying to sort it or figure out why, but then one day she just stopped snd only woke a couple of times.

@miltonj can you recall how long this went on for? We’re 6 weeks into hourly wakeups, and he wakes up screaming 😭 really hope things get better soon!

My son is currently doing the same but he's 8 months and it's been going on since Christmas I'm exhausted but everyone I've spoken to including the health visitor just a tells me it's a phase (bloody long phase)
