15 month old hates room all of a sudden

For the past 2 months my 15 month old has been going down for naps and nighttime sleep like a dream.

We can put him down wide awake and he will self settle to sleep within a short period.

However this past week when he's been put down at night he is screaming and crying and immediately standing up in his cot.

If we take him out of the room and into our room he is fine. He settles and calms down. Then if we try to take him back into his room he screams again. Even if he is asleep it's like as soon as you cross the threshold of the door he knows.

We haven't changed anything about his routine or bedroom so I don't know what's going on?

He also still settles not to badly for naps although they are now getting a bit shorter. Is this normal?

Why does he all of a sudden have an aversion to the room? Is it separation anxiety? Sleep regression?
