2 year old doesn't sleep through and have a newborn baby

My son is 2 years old and has always been a bad sleeper from a few months old. It's very rare that he will sleep through the night. He wakes up screaming or thinking it's time to play and will only settle back to sleep if me or his dad gets in his bed with him and then we have to sneak out once he is in a deep sleep. Sometimes he naps through the day but not after 1pm and sometimes he doesn't nap, so this doesn't make a difference.

I now have a 4 week old son who is premature and my husband works nights and is back at work. So I am struggling with the night feeds and my eldest waking up - my youngest has to be fed 3 hourly as he currently has RSV Bronchiolitis. So I dread when it comes to the evening.

Any suggestions on how to get my 2 year old to sleep would be great, I could deal with the nights if I had a child that slept lol.

Thanks in advance

Look into sleep training and try and find a method that suits you. Then stick to it.

If you can afford it get a sleep trainer in.

I never cracked it, but I’ve been where you are. I often had the toddler one side of me and the newborn the other side of me, which helped.

(And I’m awake because they had both climbed into bed with me and there was no space… now 3 and 5… so you might not want to take advice from me!(

This. Too. Will. Pass.

I currently have the oldest in my bed while I am doing the night feed for little one. Then when my husband gets in he will move him back in his own bed.

I wish while husband was on paternity we would have done sleep training with him as he would probably be a lot better at sleeping by now but unfortunately with having a premature baby things have been difficult. I just wish he would sleep lol
