Waking an hour after bedtime

Slightly disgruntled to be posting this as I thought we had come out of the 4 month regression but here goes.

My DD (5 months) keeps waking an hour after bedtime, I offer a feed or resettle and she goes back to sleep easily, then wakes another hour later. After 11pm/midnight she then seems to be happy to 'go down' for the night and will sleep through until morning, or at least 4 or 5am.

I'm baffled because when we were experiencing really bad sleep a few weeks ago her best chunk of sleep was always the first part of the night then awful after midnight.

Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks

False starts are really common, it's often linked to overtiredness or (helpfully 🙄) under tiredness at bed time. How much sleep do they get in 24 hours? And when does the last nap of the day end?

As pp said. Though I do think sometimes it can be a phase. My lo is having the quota for sleep and can go through phases of doing it.

To add they say the way they get to sleep example breastfeeding or rocking means when they wake they expect that again to go into next cycle.

According to my app her average sleep is 13 hours, with about 3 or 4 hours being naps. Her naps are pretty random to be honest, sometimes she sleeps for 40 minutes other times 2 hours. Her last one finishes on average at 4:30 and we aim for a 7pm bedtime, although it often takes her til 8pm to fall asleep properly.

Should we try and get the last nap to finish later maybe?

It sounds like she's overtired, at 5 months she should be getting 15-17 hours sleep per day.

3-4 hours is really short for naps at 5 months, I'd be looking to push her into 4-5 hours a day across 3 naps if at all possible. How long do you have between naps? I'd again be looking to a nap every 2-2.5 hours. 4:30pm for a 7pm need time isn't too bad.

It seems daft that more sleep will result in better sleep but that should stop the flurry of false starts! 🤞
