I'm so confused about cribs and cots and basinets!

First time mum here. I'm overwhelmed with all of these different types of beds..
We want to keep baby in the same room as us for 6 months and then move them into their own room (yes in an ideal situation) but I don't know what I need? Do I need 3 different beds?! Can someone help me understand please.

This thread is a little old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for a crib or bedside co-sleeper, we’ve recently updated our best cribs page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users and their babies. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

We love in a 2 bedroom flat and just bought a cot. We had room in our bedroom for it so a smaller basinet or crib would just have taken up more space and money.
He’s still sleeping in the cot two years later. We got one that has 3 different ways of setting it up. 4sides and higher sleeping surface to start off with, then you lower the sleeping surface when they start sitting up/doing push-ups, then you take a side off when they start climbing out.

We used the pram or just a mat on the floor as a sleep space in the living room. To be honest he mostly wanted to nap on me.

Definitely look up the safe sleep guidance. My DS hated his Moses basket so we put the cot in our room and he slept in that for 6 months, then we moved it in to his room. If he had a nap downstairs as a small baby he was in the pram carrycot.
