My little girl is 11 months on 1st Feb.

She has always been an early waker but we cracked it by never letting her nap longer then 1 hour in morning and never before 930am.

Now it's gone to pot. She's started the early waking again. Do I cut the morning nap even more? Then bringing lunch time nap earlier?

Current routine.
730am breakfast
830am bottle 8oz.
930am till 1030am nap
1130am lunch.
1230pm snack. She prefers this way. If she has a snack before lunch she still wants lunch at 1130am or 1145am
115pm bottle 6 to 8oz
2pm nap.
330pm awake.
430pm dinner
6pm snack like weetabix toast etc.
7pm 8oz.
715pm bed asleep by 730pm

May wake once maybe once in night as she's lost all 15 of her dummies. She's been waking at 530am. She quite happily lays in her cot till 7am. As she chatters, etc.

Any advice please 🙏 🙂 as i know she be dropping the morning nap soon.

Yep, I would dump the morning nap and move the afternoon one earlier perhaps

Some babies don’t need two by 10 months.

TooMinty · 09/01/2022 19:17

Mine both went to one nap at 12 months so could be that. Be prepared for falling asleep face down in lunch...

Also, my second sometimes went to bed at 6:30pm if he didn't nap well in the day and it didn't impact time of waking.

“ She's been waking at 530am. She quite happily lays in her cot till 7am. As she chatters, etc. ”

I don’t get the problem? Your baby sleeps for 10 hours, maybe waking once, and will spend 0530-0700 happily entertaining herself anyway. How is this not working for you? If you need a bit more sleep it might be easier if you went to bed a bit earlier.

@luredbyapomegrante @toominty haha. She sadly does need that morning nap, as by 10 she is literally hanging and overtired This morning I did 45mins at 930am. Then 130pm nap woke at 3pm ish then bed about 7pm ish.

She wasn't really that tired by 130pm either, nor too bad at 7pm either and went straight to sleep So your probably both right she doesn't need a nap or a small cat nap in morning. She is going nursery a morning a week next month so she unlikely be having her morning nap then so may be the push she needs. I give her a few days and cut it down again.

😆 face in lunch sounds amusing and totally worth taking a picture for the 18th birthday cake 😆

Thank you to you both

Yeah nursery was what did it for mine, they did try to get two naps in but it was too exciting so they went down to one.

My 9 month old still wakes every two hours throughout the night and gets up for the day at 5:30am. He only has two day time naps and is constantly on the go. I'm hoping when he starts nursery in a couple of weeks he will start sleeping longer but maybe not.

My daughter slept all night from an early age but started waking at 5am from about a year old and this continued for about 6 months or so. She is now 3 years old and has just started having night terrors and waking at midnight every night 🤷

All kids have different patterns and they can change at anytime. Just when you think you have it sussed it completely changes again. I'm not sure I would do anything differently to your daytime routine if they are otherwise sleeping well.

ChittyBang1987 · 10/01/2022 07:00

Oh I know every lo is different. Dont get me wrong i have worked hard to get what she's on. We had every regression, waking 2 hourly, everything tondo with sleep she's done. I thought all babies Just went to sleep when they wanted 😆 ftm here!

I know when you suss it you think that's it. Then changes. I'm impressed with you waking 2 hourly.

I just know at nursery she will only sleep for her afternoons. Doubt she have a nap in morning. In the afternoon she be difficult and may not have one. So thought in addition I would prepare her to handle cat nap in the morning.

My lo is low sleep needs. Even with hour nap in morning she could gone 4 hours easily till her next nap. Which then brings her nap later. So making me think that actually the morning nap needs to be cut and the afternoon brought forward.

I'm waffling now 😆

I would either shorten the morning nap to 30 mins and bring forward lagyernoob nap for longer, or consider a move to one nap and see how she does.

It could be the opposite and she needs more sleep, but, if she's eating well and stimulated, some baby's do just wake at 5:30 for a while.

TheBoots · 10/01/2022 07:14

Like a PP I'm struggling to see the issue? She wakes at 5.30 and entertains herself till 7? Enjoy it! My 11 month old wakes at least every 2 hours if not every hour and has done since birth. We're on 1 nap a day.

ChittyBang1987 · 10/01/2022 07:24

Thank you @YoBeaches she is literally a piggy. Eats loads and stimulated. Furniture walks and taken first steps, plays with her toys independently etc. 3 8oz bottles a day.

I suppose I should have rephrased my question to something like when to cut down on morning nap as lunch time one is getting later and later.... rather then bringing 530am into it.
