Night Terrors in 4 y.o.

Dd1 has been having night terrors two or three times a week since September (when she started pre-school; don't know if that's linked or not).

Up until now, it's been a case of just holding her hand and burbling soothingly for five minutes or so until she calms down and settles again.

Tonight, though, she actually got out of bed and was jumping around on the landing, highly agitated - when I got her back into bed, she was jerking her body around convulsively for quite a while before she emerged into semi-consciousness and began to relax.

It frightened me a bit, I must admit - and I'm quite worried for her. Has anyone else experienced this with their los? Is it a common feature of night terrors, or might there be some other trigger?

OK, just found a link on an old thread search and it seems others have had this too. Seems like a kind of sleepwalk-night-terror thing.

I suppose I shouldn't worry but I just feel so awful for her .

Apparently I used to suffer from night terrors and my mum found that sitting me on the toilet would somehow make me stop the 'terror'.

Don't know if that helps or not?

Oh, that's interesting, sophierosie - I did that earlier with dd1 (because a lot of her jumping around was very like what she does when she needs a wee) and it did seem to calm her right down. Strange, that.

KatieMorag, I always hang on to that fact - at least she hasn't got horrible memories of nightmares the next day.

Thanks for answering .
